The Society's Board of Directors consists of fifteen at-large members, a President/CEO, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and one or more Vice-Presidents, of which there are currently five (Advancement, Culture & Heritage, Finance, Operations, and Programs). Eligibility, terms, and election procedures are spelled out in the Society's bylaws.
All members, including officers, are elected directly by the membership. Presidents may serve up to two, two-year terms. All other officers serve one four-year term, and may stand for the same office again one year after their term has expired. At-large members may serve up to four, three-year terms. Each year, one third of the at-large members (five), stand for election. An at-large member may seek a fifth, non-consecutive term one year after the expiration of his fourth term.
Former Presidents may continue to serve on the board indefinitely as Presidents Emeritus, but as such may not vote unless otherwise elected to another position on the board.
Board members are required to participate in at least one committee. The Executive Committee consists of all duly elected officers of the Board, and may act on behalf of the Board between Board meetings, provided that those actions are reported to the Board at the next meeting.
