The
Bayreuth Festival in Bayreuth, Germany is the annual destination of
Richard Wagner enthusiasts the world over, who must often wait for
years to acquire tickets to the operas performed there every summer.
Wagner personally chose Bayreuth to be the home of his opera
theater, his family, and his legacy. The Third Reich famously
adopted Wagner's music as their own, and has its own special history
with the festival in Bayreuth, as well as with the Wagner family.
In spite of its past, the Festival has enjoyed tremendous success in
the last few decades, and Wagner operas the world over frequently sell
out to their subscribers before sale to the general public.
The Bayreuth Festival's unique past and present will be discussed by Hans R. Vaget.
Please join us for a tea after the talk.
