The German Society's Tastings with Marnie Old

Out of all the participants who have participated in our Beer and Wine Tastings, there was not one who left without a wonderfully warm feeling...and it was not all due to the libations!

What made this lovely experience possible was the service of Marnie Old.

Read below to find out when you can next find Marnie at the Society...

Germany's Beer Heritage Tasting

Join Philly's favorite drinks expert, Marnie Old, for a lively and informative seminar and tasting celebrating this region's German-American brewing heritage.  Unlike other hotspots on the American craft brewing scene, where recipes commonly draw on English and Belgian ale styles, Pennsylvania is known nationally for the quality of its lagers and other German styles.  Come along on a tasting tour as we explore how 19th century German brewing innovations changed the beer world forever.  Discover how local German roots made Pennsylvania a brewing center before the devastation of Prohibition, and how craft brewers are reviving the region's beer reputation by focusing on quality ingredients according to German tradition.  Compare and contrast a guided tasting of 10 beers - 5 original 'old World' German icons side by side with 5 'New World' Pennsylvania interpretations of classic German beer styles, from pilsner to weizen, from dunkel to doppelbock.

The tasting will include several different beers and light snacks.

Please join us in this energetic exploration on Saturday, March 8 at 2:30pm in the Ratskeller.

All are invited to attend.*

Ticket prices: Members, $25 and Non-members, $35.

Please call or email the Society (info at germansociety dot org) for reservations.  Capacity is limited!

*All attendees must be 21 years of age or older.

Marnie currently teaches wine classes in New York at the French Culinary institute, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and in Old City at the Penns View Inn.   She is recognized nationally for creating cutting-edge beverage programs and is a certified 'Advanced Sommelier' by the Court of Master Sommeliers.
