Friday Film Fest: Der junge Karl Marx (2017)

Fri. Nov. 16, 2018 - 6:30pm - 10:00pm
This is a historical movie that spans the years 1844 until 1848 in the lives of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. When the 26 year old Marx gets to meet Engels, who had just written a famous study on the impoverishment of the working class in England, they become close friends. Unlike Marx, who is in debt and struggles to provide for his family, Engels is a wealthy bourgeois and son of a factory owner. However he has distanced himself from his class. Both inspire each other to write texts aimed at changing society and ushering in a more humane world. Thus they lay the foundation for the International Socialist Movement and the renowned 1848 Communist Manifesto.   The film will be presented in German with English subtitles.
