KA EXTRA Series: Xenophobia, Islamophobia, and the Challenge of Immigration

Tue. Mar. 21, 2017 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Professor Martin Kaiser (Gustav Stresemann Institute, Bad Bevensen, Germany) will speak on: Xenophobia, Islamophobia and the Challenge of Immigration: Insights from a German perspective.   It goes without saying that the Martin Kaiser Lecture is linked to the most urgent political and humanitarian crisis that presently challenges the founding principles of the European Union and  Western democracies. It has triggered heated public debates in Germany and the rest of the world and has given rise to previously marginal political parties and associations. The resulting cacophony of voices only raises more fears and aggressions, calls to civility remain largely unheard. Will Germany be able to continue playing a balancing role in this turmoil? Will Angela Merkel’s “Yes, we can” (“Wir schaffen das”) come to fruition? A “winter of discontent” is besetting the world. When will it be “made glorious summer”?   We expect co-sponsoring for this lecture by the Philadelphia Arab-American Development Corps and United Voices of Philadelphia. This will extend the range of views and voices and guarantee an exciting and well-rounded discussion. This lecture will be presented in ENGLISH.
