Konversationsabend: Feuerzangenbowle

Tue. Feb. 13, 2018 - 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Herta von der Gruen has volunteered again to keep up a tradition that became most popular after Heinrich Spoerl’s bestseller Die Feuerzangenbowle (The Punch Bowl, 1933) and even more so after the film version with Heinz Ruehmann in 1944, then praised as a "masterpiece of timeless, cheerful escapism”. Those of you who remember E.T.A. Hoffmann’s novella “The Golden Pot” will know that it, like Spoerl’s story, was conceived during a hot punch session. Tradition has it, that everyone who participates in the punch bowl circle must tell a short amusing story while the punch is on fire. This is what we will do on Wednesday night. Bring your own favorite tale, but a short selection of text will be distributed.

This is Carnival time – Fastnachtsdienstag precisely. Maybe, if you feel like it and can find some vintage clothing in the depths of your closet, you should dress up for a “shabby chic” parade, and perhaps tell us a little story about it and why you kept it. This would be our very own KA Carnival with boombox music to go with it.

So, let’s brighten up the winter “doldrums” with a bit of punch and a laugh.

As always – all are invited, all are welcome.

All of our events are open to the public.
We welcome members and non-members alike.
