Inside the Book Restorer’s Workshop

Tue. Oct. 22, 2019 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Join us in the Horner Library for a presentation by Philadelphia-based artist and book restorer Ruth Scott Blackson. Ruth will discuss her book-binding and repair methods and you can get an up-close look as she demonstrates the process of bringing an old book back to life.
The Horner Library launched its Adopt-A-Rare-Book program in 2018 to gain support for its book preservation efforts. Thus far, over 50 books have been adopted and restored through the program. The latest Adopt-a-Book catalog features works by German explorer and naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, whose 250th birthday is being celebrated this fall. An exhibit of Humboldt-related works will accompany the talk. Before and after examples of restored books will also be on display. Light refreshments will be served.
All of our events are open to the public.
We welcome members and non-members alike.
