For more than 260 years, the German Society of Pennsylvania has celebrated the enduring friendship between Germany and the United States through culture, education, scholarship, and civic engagement. Join us for the Society’s signature annual gala, Stiftungsfest, as we honor distinguished leaders whose work has strengthened transatlantic understanding and international collaboration.
This year, we are proud to recognize Dr. Amy Gutmann with the German Society of Pennsylvania Leadership Award.

Dr. Amy Gutmann
Dr. Amy Gutmann is an internationally respected academic leader, political philosopher, and diplomat. She served as President of the University of Pennsylvania from 2004 to 2022, making her the longest-serving president in the university's history.
From 2022 to 2024, she served as U.S. Ambassador to Germany, further strengthening the vital transatlantic relationship between the United States and Germany. Dr. Gutman is also the first woman to hold that position.
Her leadership in higher education, public service, and international diplomacy reflects the values celebrated by the German Society of Pennsylvania.
