German Society of Pennsylvania receives 2026 Art & Culture Grant from the Philadelphia Cultural Fund
Grant will support programs that preserve and promote German culture, heritage and cross-cultural understanding in Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The German Society of Pennsylvania has received a $12,875 Art & Culture Grant from the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. The funding will support the Society’s ongoing work to preserve and promote German and German-American culture and heritage through language instruction, lectures, concerts, educational programs and community gatherings.
This funding is being awarded through The Philadelphia Cultural Fund’s FY26 grant cycle, which is distributing record support to 322 organizations citywide. This year’s cycle is bolstered by a $5 million allocation from the City of Philadelphia, which was designated during the 2026 budget cycle and a landmark partnership with the William Penn Foundation, allowing PCF to pilot a trust-based, community-informed funding model designed to foster equity across the city’s creative sector.
The German Society of Pennsylvania has been part of Philadelphia’s cultural landscape since 1764. Originally founded to assist German immigrants, the Society now serves a broad and diverse community of people interested in German language, history, culture and German-American relations.
Through its programs and partnerships, the Society highlights the many cultural, educational and economic connections between Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Germany. This grant will help the Society continue to create opportunities for people to learn a language, experience German culture, build international relationships, prepare for study or work abroad and engage more confidently in an increasingly interconnected world.
“The expansion of our grantmaking this year is a significant milestone for Philadelphia’s creative sector. We are excited to award record funding to 322 organizations—a reach that extends into every district and community across the city,” said Gabriela Sanchez, Executive Director of The Philadelphia Cultural Fund. “By increasing our eligibility threshold to $3 million this year, we are helping to cultivate a thriving arts community in Philly through our Art & Culture Grant, which provides unrestricted support to a broader range of organizations. Additionally, our new Community Impact Grant, powered by the William Penn Foundation, offers vital resources and capacity-building for smaller, community-based organizations. This pilot of our trust-based, community-informed funding model ensures that sustainable, equitable support reaches the diverse voices that make our city’s cultural fabric so unique.”
“We are honored to be recognized by the Philadelphia Cultural Fund,” said Mark McGuigan, President of the German Society of Pennsylvania. “This investment allows us to bring Germany and Philadelphia closer together and underscores the City’s commitment to the cultural vitality of our neighborhood.”
