Library Use Policy
The library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 am-4:00 pm. Researchers should notify the librarian by email or phone in advance of their visit.
Fees for use of the library:
German Society members -- free
Non-members -- $10
Students (high school and undergraduate) -- $5
Library patrons register with the librarian. First-time readers fill out and sign our reader registration form.
Use the online catalog and reference guides to locate any items of interest. Forward the librarian a list of requested items, making sure to include the call number and any size or location information.
Laptop computers and pencils may be used to take notes. The use of pens is not permitted.
Since many of our materials are fragile, please handle them with care! All materials should be read on the tables, not in the lap. Book cradles and weights will be provided.
Users must preserve the existing order of all unbound materials. Please report any disarrangement and/or conservation problems to the staff.
Please inform the librarian when you are finished with your materials. They may be placed on reserve for agreed-upon periods of time.
Cell phones must be turned off or silenced. If you need to take a cell phone call, please leave the reading room.
Digital cameras (without flash) may be used in the reading rooms with the permission of our reference librarian. This type of image reproduction is for private research use and not for publication, without written permission from the German Society.
Requests for photocopies or scans will be handled on a case by case basis according to staff time and condition of the materials. The cost for photocopying is $.50 per page. Scans are $1.00 per page.
Members of the German Society may borrow books in the Lending Library for a period of four weeks. Members who wish to extend borrowing time for a checked out item must notify the librarian before the original due date.
Use of Archival Materials: All fully processed collections are available and accessible to library researchers. Partially, minimally, or unprocessed collections will be made available to researchers pending review of the collection to ensure that no restricted materials are contained within. Restricted materials within processed collections will be made available to researchers on a case-by-case basis.
