Konversationsabend: Christmas Celebration

Wed. Dec. 12, 2018 - 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Our last meeting in 2018 takes place on Wednesday, December 12 at 6pm in the Ratskeller at the German Society.
This year, we have a wonderful surprise for you! Prof. Eric Zillmer from Drexel University, together with Bill Newman and John Penn, will present a short classical Guitar Concert especially for us. They will keep it “short and fun”, approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and will include Christmas songs from all over the world. There will be some that we can sing. They suggested Stille Nacht and O Tannenbaum. (Have your texts ready!)
We always dedicated this evening to music and poetry. Thanks to Eric Zillmer and his friends, the music will be live. The poetry will be on us. So, maybe some of you will bring a short poem. This does not have to relate to Christmas, just something you really like. You might need it for our traditional Santa Pollyanna for which you are invited to bring a mini-present (really mini), it may be funny or serious. These would go into a St. Claus bag and everybody would pick one (in exchange for at least one good line of a poem, limerick, quotation, etc.). And, of course, if you don’t have time to look for a poem or music – come anyway and enjoy the company.
This will be our very own little Christmas party. But even if some of us are not religious or practice a different religion – we can all come together celebrating the birth of a very special child - and which child is not very special - that came into the world to bring Joy.
As always – all are invited, all are welcome.
Refreshments will be served.
Around this time of the year, as we are all are preparing for Christmas, childhood memories return.
All of our events are open to the public.
We welcome members and non-members alike.
