Library Bicentennial

Please join us at the German Society of Pennsylvania at 611 Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia, from 11a.m. to 1p.m. on Sunday, May 21st, for a celebration of the Library’s bicentennial! Founded in 1817, for two hundred years the German Society of Pennsylvania Library has housed a remarkable collection of German-language literature. Its beautiful reading room has welcomed visitors since 1888 and evokes times past in German-American literary and cultural life.   The bicentennial celebration will feature a short presentation on the history of the Library, followed by a hands-on tour of some of the Library’s rare and historic treasures. Finally, toast the Library’s two-hundredth birthday with a glass of champagne, and enjoy a fine selection of hors d’oeuvres.   Cost for the event is $35, and space is limited, so register soon. Call 215-627-2332 or register online here. (Deadline for registration is May 12th.)
