German-American-Day

Fri. Oct. 6, 2017 - 5:30pm - 7:30pm

Celebrate with us the Proclamation of German-American Day! On October 6th at 5:30pm the German Society and the City of Philadelphia invite the public to witness the unveiling of an original part of Berlin Wall and listen to Mayor James Kenney and Councilman Al Taubenberger as they connect two countries across the Atlantic.

In commemoration of the 13 families from Krefeld, Germany arriving in Philadelphia in 1683 and subsequently founding the first German settlement in Pennsylvania, we will be honoring German culture and heritage in the United States. In 1983 U.S. President Ronald Reagan officially proclaimed German-American Day in recognition of German historical and continuous influence in every facet of American life.

Today, and since its founding in 1764, the German Society of Pennsylvania seeks to further the understanding of German-American contributions to the growth of American history and culture. The Society achieves this vision through its exciting cultural and educational programs for the general public.

Join us as the German Society reveals the new permanent installation of a section of the Berlin Wall on the Leidy Terrace that was obtained from the Berlin Senate.

Hors d’oeuvres are kindly provided by BRAUHAUS SCHMITZ.

Additional food and Beverages will be available for purchase.

The event is free and open to the public.

All of our events are open to the public.
