Konversationsabend: An Evening of Poetry and Music

Wed. May. 9, 2018 - 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 9, at 6 pm in the Ratskeller of the German Society. It will be an evening with Music and Poems. Expect more music than poems. This will be a potpourri of “little pieces”, presented as (very) short videos. The videos will take us through various genres, venues and ages. There will be famous bagatelles, flashmobs and some karaoke. You may be able to sing along, guess what piece it is, discuss the genre (is it simply a little piece or a complete little comedy, or an art song turned folksong, etc.).
The videos will include some folk dancing, beautiful pianists playing beautiful melodies, and the flashmobs will take us on a whirlwind trip to various wonderful cities in Europe. It will also be a time-trip, including delightful and sometimes hilarious little pieces by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Orff, also some folksong versions of their pieces, and even an excerpt of a brief jazz version of Mozart’s 40th Symphony. Most of you will recognize at first glance two little film clips as scenes from… And if you never saw the film, I am convinced you will go to Netflix for it now.
It has been much fun to prepare this KA. I am sure you will enjoy these “bagatelles” too. As always – all are invited, all are welcome. Refreshments will be served. As this evening will be mostly music, there should be less concern about language barriers.
All of our events are open to the public.
We welcome members and non-members alike.
